Warm, enough leg room to tuck in jeans, yet close enough around the ankle to avoid that annoying movement that you often get, and cosy. The sole does the job too; I go walking over very rocky areas, and the boots give protection over rough ground and no slipping! I am a size 7, but mindful of other comments, I ordered a size 6 and they fit perfectly.
